In January, Bellingham Mayor Mark Asmundson announced that Planning Director Patricia Decker would leave her position to lead the newly created Waterfront what may occur hereafters Group, which was formed from the city and the Port of Bellingham to focus onward redevelopment of the city's waterfront.

This announcement came upon the heels of the retirement of Steve Price, director of the Office of Neighborhoods and Community progressive growth (ONCD) -- which then left the city's sum of two units planning departments temporarily without directors.
