American Fabricators, or "Amfab" as the company was popularly known, is a name that Bellingham residents associate with the city's bustling waterfront of the late 1950 and 1960 Beginning as part of Archibald Talbot's famed Bellingham Shipyards, Amfab eventually became an independent firm manufacturing laminated beams. Talbot, a Seattle stockbroker, bought brace financially troubled waterfront firms, Bellingham Marine Railway & Boat Building Co and Bellingham Iron Works in 1941 Combining these pair companies, Talbot founded Bellingham Shipyards, located forward the north side of Bellingham Bay near the Squalicum Waterway.
