With income tax deadline a month away, Lions unite in a club International and supporters campaigned Monday for $1 contributions to blindness prevention.

For the first time this year, blindness prevention is upon the list of causes that Illinoisans can support by way of checking a box on their income tax forms.

"You can check more than $1 You can check $10" state Rep Tom Holbrook D-Belleville, said Monday.

Holbrook was among sum of two units state representatives and several metro-east Lions set members who attended a pres parley in Collinsville to promote blindness prevention.

State Rep Jay Hoffman, D-Collinsville, was single in kind of the sponsors of a novel law last year that bring blindness prevention on state income tax forms this year. He credited metro-east Lions.

"It was from their ideas that the bill was introduced," Hoffman said.

Other causes with check-offs include veterans services, Alzheimer's disease, breast cancer and child abuse prevention.
