When the bars obstruction out at 2 a.m., and almost everyone otherwise is asleep, Bellingham turns into a different town. The highways are quiet and the parking dooms are empty, but for those 24-hour businesses that are still serving customers, there's enough business to detain the doors open.

And for the folk who are brewing the coffee and serving the bread to rowdy college students and late-night workers just getting against their shift, it's an interesting world to live in.
