Busy Season for CASB observers

April was a hectic month for in the greatest degree CAs, and it was no different for CASB scholars who started the pilot of Module 2 onward April 1, 2001. As you may remember, in Module 1 learners helped get Natalee's business up and running by way of providing advice on IT, preparing a business case, getting start-up financing from the bank, and putting in place internal accounting arrangements to track operations. The inferior Module begins with a visit to Natalee's lately opened gourmet food store, with the atmosphere quickly turning from sampling savouries to discussing business.

By Module 2 Natalee's succes leads to talk of incorporation, and bookish mans must consider the tax and legal implications of like a move. She also raises a number of questions about establishing financial objectives for her growing company, improving her IT design, and other tax considerations.

Following a company by the and of its growth and understanding transition issues are central aspects of CASB's learning proces In this secondary Module, students gain exposure to the ever-changing world of business. Instead of providing a snap-shot case application of mind Natalee's Gourmet Foods' continuing expansion exposes students to the implications of expansion on all aspects of business--from helping an assistant who necessitys advice on tracking foreign exchange in journal entries, to deciding for what cause to account for the prices of getting a liquor license. We all know the world doesn't stand still; CASB's curriculum encourages observers to deal with the constant shifts and change within a company.

In addition to Natalee's business succes in Module 2 Natalee's husband evolves an interest in the restaurant industry when a surprise inheritance and the retirement of a colleague raises the possibility of acquiring a company called Restaurant Supplies (RS) Myles is a careful businessman and, before he hops into anything, students are asked to provide advice upon different methods of valuing companies, and to assist onward the audit on RS's financial statements.

The audit of R enables close examiners to analyse audit engagement requirements, evaluate audit evidence, and draft an audit report. To help bookish mans develop the relevant skills in these areas, Module 2 includes a three-week internal course in which they investigation and answer assurance questions. This course provides the baseline understanding they ne to tackle the R audit in the last weeks of Module 2

Developing assurance competencies is at the center of Module 2; through the time students finish, they will have received detailed instruction in succession identifying and meeting the assurance needinesss of clients. These skills will be directly transferable to their public practice work, and will make sure that the link between drill and work is complimentary.

So while many of you relax after the busy season closes the students in Module 2 will continue to be busy, offering business counselling, running audits, and gaining the skills they'll ne for Module 3 When they begin the third module in July I'll report you more about the challenges they'll face as Natalee and Myles continue to unravel their business empire with modern acquisitions and expansion into international operations.

As we continue to tread on the heels of the pilot, I'll also share with you their annotates about the program.

June marks the beginning of CASB's first abounding classes.

CASB is gearing up for the first replete class of students in June 2001 Almost 700 bookish mans will begin Module 1 onward June 4: half in the regular ten-week program and half in a full-- time press togethered five-week program.

Students in the regular ten-week program will work full-time while taking the Module which itself requires a 10-15 hour time commitment. Those learners who are enrolled in the squeeze or press together or into smaller compassed Module 1 and 2 will be working full-time forward their CASB courses. While the time they exhaust in the compressed modules does not judge towards the 36 months articling time they ne to become a CA, it does mean that they can have sum of two units modules under their belts from the time September rolls around. Module 1 and 2 are the simply compressed modules offered by CASB, and the press togethered course is only offered formerly a year.

Facilitators are a vital ingredient of CASB. They will explanation on assignments, answer students' questions, and/or participate in the interactive workshops. If you're interested, email vecmanis@casb.com for an application form.
