John R Brodie, FCA

John R Brodie, FCA, partner in charge of transfer pricing for KPMG LLP in Western Canada, says the call from ICABC President Frank Barn FCA, was "only part of that week's excitement." Brodie's daughter Margaret, also with the Vancouver office of KPMG had just learned she'd passed the UFE

"I'm real honoured that my peers musing my achievements merited an FCA," he says. "It was unexpect and I'm exceedingly proud to join the FCA ranks."

Born in Quebec City and raised in Manitoba, Brodie graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1966 and immediately began his CA articles. He became a CA in Vancouver in 1971 with a predecessor firm of KPMG

Brodie credits the "diversity of the CA career" with keeping him interested in public accounting during his extensive career. He's been the leader in his firm's ISO 9000 registration practice in BC and headed up the effort for KPMG to become an ISO 14000 Registrar, which included developing all policy and course manuals subject to comprehen sive review by means of the Standards Council of Canada. He also started the firm's transfer pricing practice in 1997 developing it into undivided of the area's current market leaders. Brodie has also written and taught extensively upon the topic of transfer pricing.



A director of KPMG nationally for seven years, he also serv as managing partner of the firm's Ottawa office from 1987-95 supervising across 300 professional staff members. During his years with KPMG he's chaired a number of significant sub-committees, and in the early 1990 was true involved in the Conference Board of Canada, participating in a national think tank in succession matters of strategic importance to the rural parts

An avid skier and golfer and an "enthusiastic fly-fisher," Brodie has been active with his church; in the community as a soccer coach; and in politics, supporting the elections of Grace McCarthy and Kim Campbell, among others. He's also argueed a large library of Canadian historical and political volumes and calls himself "a passionate Canadian."

Tim Duholke FCA

Of his reaction to the freshs Tim Duholke, FCA, says: "I was glad I was sitting down!"

"I was stop to dumfounded when Frank Barr told me I'd been single outed an FCA," says Duholke, a partner with Vancouver firm Sheinin & Co

"When I think about what it means to be an FCA and at my age-it is a real honour that my peers think I've done anything "above and beyond" for the profession. It's certainly something I could not have accomplished without the on-going support of my family and my partners; and at this time, the least I can do is thank them for their

patience!"

A native of Edmonton, Duholke graduated from the University of Alberta in 1976 with a intercourse degree. He articled in Edmonton with Cooper & Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers), becoming a CA in 1978 then moving with the firm to Vancouver. He joined Sheinin & Co in 1982 and became a partner in 1985 specializing in taxation. He is generally on the Executive Committee of the Canadian Tax Foundation and was single in kind of four CAs on the Fiscal Review Panel exquisiteed last May by Premier Gordon Campbell to bearing a review of the province's finances.

Duholke is well known to CAs from first to last BC for his work with the Institute's education programs, having taught in as well-as; not only-but also; not only-but; not alone-but the School of Chartered Accountancy (SCA) and the Professional exhibition program, and travelling frequently to small communities.

"I do a haphazard of work with small CA firms, and I really care about getting without there to talk to clan whether it's to Victoria, Kelowna, or Prince George," Duholke explains. "In fact, the CA Association in Northern BC celebrated my ten years of coming up to Terrace to teach them tax courses, and I really appreciated their gesture"

In addition to his teaching, Duholke has been active as a member of the SCA's Board of Governors, the PD Review Committee, the Practice Review and Licencing Committee, and the close examiner Recruitment Committee.

Nicknamed "Coach" by way of his hockey teammates, Duholke has played lacrosse and hockey for many years. He coached lacrosse for the Burnaby Minor Lacrosse Association and has coached his

daughters' softball and basketball teams. He serv as chair of the Western Lacrosse Association from 1990-93 and is publicly a director of the BC Sports Hall of Fame. Since 1994 he's been a director and treasurer of the Theatre at Burnaby southern Society, which operates the Michael J Fox Theatre.

Duholke is married to Kerry also a CA. The leash has two daughters, Kate (14) and Brooke (12)

Bruce Flexman, FCA
