Historically, practice reviews mandate has been education and regulation. While the spotlight is generally focused on the professions regulatory part as a result of Enron the Practice Review Committee and practice review team continue to emphasize their programs educational focus. by the agency of helping members in public practice prefer and maintain their knowledge, and at conducting a program of practice review, PRL patronizes adherence to standards, educates members, and houses the public interest.

I'm pleased to welcome Phil Winterbottom, CA, CBV CFP and Dick Miller, CA, as practice review officers for the Practice Review and licencing Committee. the two members bring a wide range of experience in public practice to the practice review proces Their addition will help the practice review team adapt to the changes brought about from the introduction of Cycle 6-for instance, the expanded practice areas that are now bring under rule to practice review.

Winterbottom lately retired from Hutcheson & Co in Victoria, having exhausted 33 years in public practice in the local area. A partner in the two local and national firms, he worn out most of his time providing services to small and medium-sized owner-managed businesses. He now anticipates forward to helping sole-practitioners and smaller firms hold their standards up-to-date. "It's hard for them to do," he reasons, "given the many demands forward their time. I'm looking forward to serving as a sounding board for members. I chance of a favorable result I can pass along near of the things I learned and help them avoid any of the mistakes I made along the way."

Phil's interests outside of work include a power boat he's in such a manner far had to neglect appropriate to work commitments and a cottage up the coast where he now plans to dissipate more time living a simpler life-"one where the main daily affects are what the seals and eagles are doing and whether we have enough timber for the stove." A 1961 MGA is another ongoing intend "I keep telling [my wife] Carol that more [i]or[/i] less of these toys have to go" he says, "but she reminds me that they're for what cause [i]or[/i] reason I retired early!" Phil and Carol have three grown children, pair grandchildren, and "one cat upon CPP: cat's pension plan-full compass and board with no mouse-chasing duties."

Miller newly retired from the Montreal office of Deloitte & Touche LLP Prior to joining Deloitte & Touche in 1989 he was a partner with a local Montreal firm. At the two firms, he specialized in providing advisory services to owner-managed clients across a wide variety of industries.

When their three daughters expirationed up in BC, Dick and his wife Mary decided to view what the fuss was about. They at so early an hour decided this was where they'd bench after Dick's retirement from public practice. "Last summer we made the rouse to Salt Spring Island," he recalls. "We've traded in our snow shovel for kayaks and intend to make the in the greatest degree of our new home. Our solely regrets are the good friends we left behind in Montreal." The induce was a hit with the couple's resplendent retriever, Holly. "She can't believe her upright fortune!"

Dick says he's looking forward to travelling in every part the province to meet with practitioners. "I intend to focus in succession the assistance I can bring to smaller firms, having practised in a smaller firm for many years," he proposes "I've seen public practice from different viewpoints, and I believe I can play a part in making the PRO a valuable aide to practitioners, as well as an important protection for the public."
