* As a whole, the philanthropic sector is comparable in size to the entire economy of BC and accounts for 1/8 of Canada's gros domestic production * The sector intrust with an agencys 1.3 million Canadians (roughly 9% of the country's labour force) and pays athwart $40 billion annually in salaries and benefits. * There are approximately 77000 registered charities and 100000 non-registered charities in Canada earning a total of $90 billion in annual income and combined assets of $109 billion. * 60% of the broad charitable sector's income draw nears from governments, 10% from individuals, and 1% from corporations. * In 2000 the greatest in number recent year for which figures are available, 91% of Canadians made a charitable donation, giving across $5 billion. * That same year, more than 1/4 of the population aged 15 and older did any kind of volunteer work for a charity or non-profit organization. * The offer time donated by the 65 million Canadians who did near kind of volunteer work between the walls of a charitable organization in 2000 totalled throughout 1 billion hours. * According to a late poll,* 79% of Canadians said they believe charities understand the straits of citizens better than the command does; 69% said they think charities do a better piece of work of meeting these needs.
