Here it is May, and I'm writing my last president's round pillar and reflecting on the past year-back to last June when I was picked president. I'm looking back at a year filled with personal satisfaction, and cloyed of successes for the Institute. That's what I'd like to talk about in this array of less front than depth

Personally, my satisfaction arrives from getting to know in the same manner many of our members upon a one-to-one basis, and trying to ruminate your issues and concerns in the setting of the Institute's priorities.The President's Tour, the FCA dinner, and other so functions reminded me what a privilege it is to be a member of our profession, and particularly of the BC Institute. These meetings brought hearth to me just how a great deal of we can accomplish, by working together, to instigate our interests forward.

My personal goal as president was to solicit more member involvement. To that finis two new forums-the Mid-Sized Firms Forum and the Regional Presidents Forum-- were instituted, enabling these parties to provide direct input to Council. the same of my few disappointments this year was not managing to stake up a vehicle by which Council could hear directly from members outside of public practice. I leave that to my successors.

I believe a great quantity [i]or[/i] amount of of the Institute's success this year be the effects from focusing in on our designated fall of the curtains Led by Council and CEO Richard Ree FCA, each action taken was assessed with revere to its impact on these periods I'd like to recap just a small in number of them now-those that I suppose most important.

Upholding the integrity of the CA designation

A of recent origin Policy Governance Framework was implemented to have the charge of our Discipline, Practice Review and Licencing, and Membership processe This framework clearly articulated responsibilities and streamlined processe The Act Changes Task Force also complet its work, and negotiations are ongoing with the Provincial dominion to try and move the modernization of our Act forward. Supporting CASB and the CICA in implementing our of recent origin education program has been another of the Institute's priorities this year. The education proces was made far more user-friendly, and significant successe in recruiting were also achieved. Recruitment efforts were expanded to regions with degree-granting education facilities, and regional cohorts were established. on the contrary most importantly, the Task Force onward Attractiveness reported to Council at the May Council meeting; its recommendations will form the basis for plenteous of the Council Retreat. The Task Force report will be discussed at greater long duration in future issues of Beyond Numbers.

Supporting members in their pursuit to be the business advisors and assurance providers of choice

Again, there was long activity in this area during the year. The PD Program was dramatically expanded in consequence of partnership with the Certified Business Valuators, the Institute of Internal Auditors, the Information connected views Audit and Control Association, and UBC More partnerships are also being perform the operations indicated ined Significant website enhancements also occurr with the addition of a whole firm listing and an overhaul of the use referral service.

Buyers of our services recognize the skills and services of CAs

In addition to continuing the BC Check- Up this year, the Institute course of lifeed its first ever CA Business sight Survey. Both were extensively veiled and positively received by media vents Both also form the basis for many of the policy positions and store advice the Institute is providing to command Members throughout the province have observationed positively on these ICABC initiatives.

In 2001 positive recently made knowns stories generated by the Institute increased according to 34.9%. And, despite the negative pres generated for the profession nationally by means of Enron, positive news stories about BC CAs continued to increase in the first quarter of 2002

As your outgoing president, I thank you for your support quite through the year. I'd also particularly like to thank Council, the Institute Executive, Richard Ree and the Institute staff for making this year like a success and for making my space of time such a positive and rewarding experience. Finally, Id like to wish incoming president Robin Elliott, FCA, as fulfilling a presidency as I myself have just be delighted withed
