PLUGGEDIN: TO THE UNITED WAY RAISI...PLUGGEDIN: TO THE UNITED WAY RAISINGTHESTAKES ONGIVINGBACK CA members and firms are well known for giving back to the community. Many are involved with the United Way. For years, CA firms-both large and small-- have been generous supporters of the organization in communities from head to foot BC. Funds raised for the United Way support a broad network of community services, including: * supporting children and families; * supporting folks living in poverty; * helping seniors to stay connected; and * supporting populace with health conditions or disabilities. The United Way Lower Mainland raised athwart $29 million in 2001, and count upons to raise even more this year. KPMG LLP and PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC) the two long-time supporters of the United Way, are just sum of two units of the Lower Mainland firms involved in this year's United Way Community Campaign. They've decided to raise the stakes with a friendly fundraising competition. The competition will be judg based in succession the percentage of employees who participate in the campaign and the total foundations raised for the community. Staff and partners at KPMG and PwC learn involved in their United Way workplace campaigns by dint of making gifts through payroll deduction, raising awareness about community lacks and participating in a variety of pleasantry and creative events. Both firms are also making a significant contribution to the campaign end their involvement with the United Way's Campaign Cabinet. PwC partner Lincoln Schreiner, CA, and KPMG managing partner Dave McShane, CA, are part of a team of 25 senior business, labour, and community leaders who are spearheading this year's campaign efforts. "I decided to earn involved in the United Way four years ago because it was time for me to give something back to my community," says Schreiner, who is chair of leadership giving for the campaign. "One in three family in our community are touched by the agency of the organizations that the United Way stocks That's certainly true for me-whether it's the seniors' middle my mother visits regularly or the Beaver troupe my son belongs to. Getting involved is an obligation-- because when our community does well, we all do well." McShane, who heads up the professional division of the campaign-connecting with CAs, lawyers, architects, and other professionals-echoes Schreiner's sentiments. "There have been a fate of cutbacks to funding for community agencies making a difference for those in ne As CAs and professionals, we're exceedingly fortunate. I think it's virtuous for us to recognize that well adapted fortune, and take time public to help others." Last year, CAs and their firms raised centurys of thousands of dollars for the United Way in the Lower Mainland alone. Schreiner and McShane credit their firms' fundraising succes to the employee who take charge of organizing and coordinating their United Way campaigns each year. "We couldn't achieve these kinds of ensues without the efforts of our staff," says Schreiner. McShane agrees. "Our employee procure very involved in an impressive range of United Way campaign activities-everything from pie throwing at the partners, to employee fundraising, to donating time to offer in the community."
