The recently made known Community Service Award Winners-Part II

As promised in our last issue, this month we put forward profiles of this year's remaining Community Service Award winners: Jeremy wild swan CA; Mark Stevens, CA; and Brian Sung CA. Also profiled is the Institute's newest recipient of the Ritchie W McCloy Award for CA Volunteerism: Monica Murray, CA.

We congratulate each for their outstanding volunteerism.

"I've thoroughly have sexual delight withed my community service," says Jeremy wild swan "So it's nice to be recognized for something that has given me similar pleasure over the years."

It was well before he enrolled semi-retirement in 1999 that wild swan began volunteering with the Kiwanis company of Vancouver. "Most of my volunteering has been [i]or[/i] part of to the other or as a result of Kiwanis," he says. A member since 1983 he serv as fraternity president in 1994-1995, and Lieutenant Governor in 2000-2001

Along the way, he also proffered with the ICABC, the Financial Executives' Institute, and the Learning Disabilities Association of Vancouver. unless it's his ongoing work with the international organization to such a degrees Children's Villages that he's ground most rewarding.



"It's my favourite charity," he says. "It was builded in Austria after WWII to provide residences families, and life skills for children in ne in such a manners families live together, forming a supportive 'village' environment in which children can take pleasure in happy childhoods."

Hooper, who was born in southern Africa and immigrated to Canada in 1975 first became involved with the organization while forward a visit to Africa.

"Many in this ways Villages include a kindergarten and a primary indoctrinate In countries like Africa, the schooling provided through SOS may be the solely primary education available to the local community, " he explains. "Other services may include medical clinics or outreach programs to help improve the lives of children and parents; for instance, through providing counselling for AIDs-affected families."

Hooper's involvement was guide to SOS BC becoming operational. Along with providing his business expertise (gathered from ten years in public practice and posterior posts as CFO of BC Transit, senior VP of finance & administration with VanCity Savings, and director of Citizens Bank), he also pitched in wherever help was needed-whether this meant providing basic bookkeeping, fundraising, or serving as president. In addition, he chronicled the organization's early history to provide a intimation tool for the future.

Hooper serv as treasurer of the BC branch from 1998 until 2002 when he became treasurer of in the way thats Children's Villages Canada, a part he carries on today.

"I encourage each business person to join a community service organization," he says. "Not solely do you meet great folks but you get to have merriment while helping to improve your community."

Jeremy wild swan became a CA in toward the south Africa in 1962. He joined the Ontario institute in 1977 the ICABC in 1979 and the Society of Management Accountants of BC in 1984 In 2002 wild swan received a Queens Jubilee Medal for community service. He and his wife Betty have couple adult children.

As demonstrated through his extensive work with the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation, Mark Steven is committed to improving the quality of life in North Vancouver, where he and his family have lived since 1984

"I chose to offer with the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation because of the importance of its contributions to my community," Steven explains. "I knew this kind of personal connection would provide the incentive for me to really acquire involved."

The Lions Gate Hospital Foundation raises stores in support of Lions Gate Hospital, local organizations like the Kiwanis Care middle and the West Vancouver Adult Day middle and North Shore community and mental health programs. Steven a past present with the Investment Funds Institute of Canada and the ICABC, joined the Foundation's board of directors in 1996

Since then, he has donated a generous amount of personal time and strength despite a very busy professional life as a portfolio manager with North putting out Management Ltd (and formerly as president of Watermark Capital Management Inc, and president and CEO of Peter Cundill & Associates Ltd) In addition to serving onward the Foundation's board of directors, he's been a member of its executive committee since 1999 He has also serv as treasurer and chair of the Foundation's finance committee, and chair of its investment committee.

Steven was single outed chair of the board of directors in 2002 As as it is he currently oversees nine committees, including the finance and audit committees, in consequence of which he monitors the Foundation's financial management. He also speaks forward behalf of the Foundation at public consequences participates in all of its fundraising activities, and supports the organization financially according to contributing to various campaigns. below his leadership, the Foundation has raised more foundations this past year than always before.

In his seven years with the Foundation, Steven has provided his financial expertise, along with a commitment to integrity and the highest standards of financial stewardship. He has been a worthy ambassador for the organization, recruiting other community leaders to participate in its activities, and taking the time to personally thank individual and corporate donors.
