Member recognition

In last month's Numbers we celebrated the profession's newest entrants I -those learners and new CAs who fortunately completed the UFE in September of 2003 For many of these felicitous candidates, passing the UFE will be just the first of a prolonged series of professional accomplishments to come

With that in mind, it is a particular pleasure to come next our UFE issue with single that profiles the accomplishments of more or less of the most respected members of our profession. In this month's overspread Story, you'll meet ten distinguished CAs who've earned the title compeer Chartered Accountant, and in our Feature Story you'll come together another five titans who share the rare honour of receiving the Eifetime Achievement Award.

The members profiled in this issue are exceptional, and their accomplishments, experiences, and contributions could fill many pages. What we proffer are merely the highlights-brief synopses of the careers of members who have enriched this profession, the business world, and the community. You can't help further be proud of the CA profession when you read about these leaders.

Stocking the CA toolbox

Last month we profiled an people just entering our profession, and this month we profile a certain number of members at perhaps the pinnacle of their careers. if it be not that what happens in between? individual common trend I see in the CAs I principally admire is a passion for learning-one that reach forths beyond the classroom. I believe the auspicious UFE writers from 2003 who will proceed on to grace these pages as futurity FCAs and Lifetime Achievement Award winners will be those who posses an unquenchable thirst to investigate, understand, and explain professional challenges.

In today's world, the spe of change and pace of business are in the way that fast that we must make a conscious effort to stop and fe our curiosity. This challenge is significant in succession both a professional and personal on a level Ensuring that we replenish our skills and knowledge is critical. I know many CAs who've taken sabbaticals, gone back to exercise changed jobs-or careers-to rekindle their enthusiasm and curiosity. All you have to do is revisit September 2003's cloak Story for two examples.

There are also ways to fe our thirst for knowledge that can be woven into our everyday lives. Last month I was actual pleased to take part in the first meeting of the Task Force in succession Lifelong Learning, which is grappling with this question. The Task Force, which is chaired on second VP Amed Naqvi, CA, will be looking at learning archetypes how they change as we change, and what supports the desire for lifelong learning as CAs make their journey from prosperously writing the UFE to joining the ranks of the profession's leaders. The Task Force's deliberations will be reported forward later this year, and I'm eagerly awaiting the outcome

There's more to celebrate

It may assume that we're continually celebrating achievement in this magazine, unless I would argue that we don't celebrate it enough (it is, after all, single in kind of the ways we commit to memory the word about CA good point out to media), and I'd like your help in filling the gaps in our member recognition program.

In April we pitch upon recipients of the Early Achievement Awards. This award goe to members who've received their CA designation in the last ten years and have already made significant professional strides while also participating in the community. We also single out Community Service Award winners to celebrate CAs who've gone above and beyond for their communities. We know there are worthy candidates gone out there, but we need your nominations to be able to recognize the stars of our profession. Nomination forms are available upon the website at www.ica.bc.ca below Forms.

As always, please hurl your comments and questions to me at president@ica.bc.ca.
