Distinguished service Past ICABC president W John Dawson, FCA, will receive a Distinguished Service Award from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta (ICAA) this June for his work with the CA drill of Business. Dawson, a business advisor and retired partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (Vancouver and Toronto), has extended been passionate about education. "Education has always been a part of my professional life, ranging from teaching to leading the education function [at] PwC" he details "When I had the opportunity to ultimately play a leadership part in CASB, it was part of a natural continuum for me" Dawson became involved with CASB at the conceptual stage; and when this universal of a Western Canada-based accountancy delivery program subsequently came to fruition, Dawson became chair of its board of directors. His four-year name ended March 31, 2004, when he passed the baton to Alberta FCA Douglas N Baker. Of Dawson's involvement with CASB, ICAA Executive Director Steven J Glover MBA, FCA, says, "Creating a recently made known organization now servicing some 2500 bookish mans across the vast expanse of Western and Northern Canada is a remarkable achievement, which benefited immensely from John's leadership through the whole extent of these four formative years." Though he's been singled not at home for his contributions, Dawson views CASB as a hugely prosperous collaborative effort-one that has formed the basis for more collaboration with other regions in the country As CASB CEO Dr W John Brennan, FCA, points revealed Dawson was vital to this collaborative process: "John's experience and leadership in the area of governance in the accountancy profession has contributed significantly to the fearless collaboration between CASB and participating institutes in Western Canada." This is single the second time in the history of the ICAA award program that a Distinguished Service Award will be at handed to a non-member of the Alberta institute. Dawson will receive the award at the June 11 th ICAA Merit Awards formality in Edmonton.
