CONGRATULATIONS

The BC guidance has appointed the first Business Practices and Consumer Protection Authority board members. Chairman of the recent authority is Frank Barr, FCA, a former assistant auditor general of BC and past-president of the ICABC. The authority will be responsible for licensing, inspections, investigations, and the enforcement of its Business Practices and Consumer Protection Authority Act.

PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) LLP is pleased to announce the appointments of brace new BC-based incorporated partners, effective July 12004:

Bettina Charpentier, CA, is an incorporated partner in the international tax services practice, specializing in cross-border reorganizations, acquisitions, divestitures, and international financing transactions, primarily for clients in the mining and potency sectors. Charpentier joined PwC in 1987 She has made presentations upon international tax issues for the Canadian Tax Foundation and the ICABC.

Michael Cinnamond, CA, is an incorporated partner in the mining industry practice. He provides audit and assurance services to producing mining companies and exploration companies registered forward Canadian and US stock exchanges. Cinnamond has supported transactions like as prospectus filings, new listings, acquisitions, and subvert take-overs, and is co-author of PwC's annual BC Mining Industry scan He joined PwC Scotland 1992 and transferred to the Vancouver office in 1997 Cinnamond is generally treasurer of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Vancouver Branch.

Karen Cheung, CA, has been re-elect president of Penticton Women in Business for a secondary one-year term. Cheung works for the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen.

Darren Millard, CA, TEP a shareholder of LDMB Advisors Inc, CAs in Langley, was freshly elected to the board of the Peace Arch Hospital Foundation in White Rock

Three CAs have been named to the 2004/05 board of directors for the United Way of the Lower Mainland: chair Art Reitmayer, CA, of Channel M in Vancouver; CaI Buss, CA, of Deloitte & Touche LLP in Vancouver; and John Webster, FCA, of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in Vancouver.

Roy Royston, CA, of Grant Thornton LLP in Vancouver, has been named to the 2004/05 board of the Canadian fraternity of Vancouver.

Rolf Wolter, CA, of Rolf Woher, CA in Coquitlam, has been named treasurer of the 2004/05 board of in such a manners Children's Village BC.

On Monday, August 9 Don Miller, CA, saved the life of a woman being violently attacked by the agency of a man later identified as James Antonio Pinheiro. Miller, the COO of Alexander Holburn Beaudin & Lang, was common of several witnesses who came to the woman's redemption When Pinheiro started shooting, Miller and the other upright Samaritans were forced to retreat-in Miller's case, to his car, which he tried to use to shield the woman, Despite being projectile the woman managed to hasten to his car and hop in. As she did to such a degree a bullet smashed through the car window and hit her again, While pushing the woman down in the passenger seat, Miller sp opposite to a nearby ambulance station. Police later marksman and killed Pinheiro in a shootout 15 kilometres away, His intended victim survived,

Miller later downplayed any heroism, saying: "I fee! really firmly that we should look at this as a situation in which we all had an opportunity to play a part, and everybody did what be seened right at the time. [It's] the any amount of all those roles... that ensur the situation didn't realize worse."
