Impact of the Check-Up

The Check-Up obeys as a reminder that, despite the profession's present focus on merger discussions, a great deal of other work is also being done at the Institute to make secure that the role of CAs as advisors and leaders in BC is recognized at both the public and the guidance The report serves a number of purposes:

First, it provides an opportunity for us to demonstrate CAs' expertise across a broad range of issues.



Second it work fors as the backdrop for our store submissions and helps ensure that we focus the sway on what we believe are the critical issues for BC This year's packet consultations are half over, and the Check-Up has provided us with a certain quantity of unique regional inputs as well as a broad provincial perspective for the last fiscal estimate before the next provincial election.

Third, it is a tool for members. Each year, we jaculate over 1,000 extra copies of the Check-Up to members to such a degree they can circulate it to their clients, distribute it at business presentations, and make it available in their offices. In our practice [Tyce Carle-Thiesson in Nanaimo], my partner Doug Tyce CA, and I have set that clients really enjoy getting information related to living, working, and investing in BC and learning the Institute's perspectives with regard to these issues.

Changes to the 2004 Check-Up

As outlined in September's GR Update file (page 12), this year's report has been updated according to recommendations from the BC Check-Up Advisory Committee, which met in January of this year to review the vigors and weaknesses of the previous years' reports. I encourage you to take a consider at the results: a recent format with new indicators. As a Nanaimo and Vancouver Island resident, 1 am particularly pleased to papal court that this sixth edition includes regional profiles.

You'll find more about the Check-Up in this month's disguise Story, including back-up information forward the three key topics of the Institute's now passing BC Check-Up media campaign: financial vulnerability, do job-work creation, and innovation.

The Feature Story this month takes a await at our new online resource for members in industry. Our goal in creating this website was to give members in industry short wounds to relevant information and contacts. This material is organized into three main sections: Business Tools, Managing Yourself and Others, and Staying Onside. If you're a member in industry, be safe to check out this novel resource at www.ica.bc.ca/industry, and depute us your feedback so that we can restrain improving the site to forward you better.

Ethical Dilemmas this month addresses the issue of plagiarism, a topic of grave transaction for the CA School of Business (CASB) and single that negatively impacts the profession as a whole. To drive this point abiding-place CASB has proposed additions to its penalty order spelled out in the summer 2004 edition of its CEO Special Report at www.casb.com. each student and employer of observers should read the Report, in addition to the article forward page 26 of this magazine.

On a lighter note, our member profile this month spotlights the new trip to Africa taken by way of the Institute's Director of Professional Advisory Services, Doug Wallis, CA. Read page 21 to learn more about Doug's experience, which included sum of two units weeks of humanitarian work forward behalf of the Canadian Network for International Surgery
