Happy 2005! And what a year it prom...Happy 2005! And what a year it promises to be... This year marks the ICABCs 100th anniversary, and as you'll read in this month's veil Story, we have lots of affairs and projects planned to celebrate this milestone over the coming year-including the centenary calendar enclos in this month's mailing. UFE success As we begin to celebrate the past 100 years, it's also a time to think about the futurity of the profession. What better way to start than from congratulating the 232 BC candidates who just passed the UFE? You can read all about BC's (and CASB's) honestly impressive results in this month's For the Profession by dint of Dr. Don Carter, FCA. And to learn more about our brimmed goblet crop of honour-roll students, employ to this month's Feature Story forward page 12. Congratulations to each and each one of you! More notes from the Tour Throughout the President's Tour I've institute that members are definitely interested in Institute activities, and that they are certainly more amenable to the idea of a merger now that grandfathering of the CMA designation has been taken opposite the table. Also, practitioners from regional areas continue to expres significant support for our efforts toward the rationalization of accounting standards. Past presidents gather I had the pleasure of attending the Past Presidents' Dinner November 16 and was in deed impressed by the turnout. It was especially gratifying to papal court members like Derek Lukin Johnston, FCA (president in 1954-55) and Don B Fields, FCA (president in 1960-61) who are still interested in and committed to the activities of the profession. With in the same manner many leaders gathered in the same swing I seized the opportunity to encourage each to race for Council: "...if you're looking for a change of pace." This got a big laugh, and something owns me no one will be taking me up forward the offer. Still, you can't blame me for trying! Scottish president & CEO pay us a visit The day after the Past Presidents' Dinner, I had the pleasure of meeting with Ian Robertson, CA, president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS), and Ian Marrian, CA, chief executive and secretary. The ICAS's 150th anniversary year was nearing its period and the two were in the proces of winding up an eight-day, eight-city tour of international institutes with which the ICAS has significant ties. A special thanks to Hugh Hepburn, CA Hugh Hepburn has been "the PD man" in Terrace for through a decade. Every year, Hugh reviews the Institute's fall line-up of PD courses, observes all the CAs in the area to papal court which two titles are the greatest in quantity popular, then puts in the PD "order" for Terrace. He contacts the ICABC to find not at home when the President's Tour is coming to Terrace, and works PD courses accordingly. He contacts potential instructors to discuss in what manner courses can be customized to focus upon topics of interest to CAs in his area. He works the course facilities, arranges for shipping, and garners and remits all the course absolute title or posessions and sign-in sheets. And he makes infallible everything runs smoothly on course days. In short, he takes care of all the arrangements. If that weren't enough, Hugh also picks instructors up at the airport and gives them the scenic tour. Our Director of Professional growth Moira Bryans, CA, puts it best: "Hugh has greatly helped to make PD available to members in and around Terrace. He's a delight to work with, and we couldn't do it without him!" Thanks Hugh for all your hard work! We were honoured that these couple representatives from the ICAS made time for us during their whirlwind trip, and the luncheon provided us with a great opportunity to exchange ideas and information. Following the luncheon we presented the ICAS with a photo of William T Stein, the Scottish CA who planted the ICABC in 1905. In respond the ICAS presented us with a small objet d'art commemorating their 150th anniversary. This gift is displayed in the Institute's reception area. If you have annotates or questions, contact me at president@ica.bc.ca. I'd be pleased with to hear from you!
