Well it was certainly an impressive...

Well it was certainly an impressive UFE flow for BC this year. And when an ecstatic CASB VP of Learning Don Carter, FCA, broke the exciting of the present days to me, my first reaction was "Greaaat... I win to interview 14 people in united week... "

But such selfish cogitations quickly disappeared as I spoke to each of the honourees, whose mixture of delight and relief was infectious. And while I could at no time be as happy about EC's UFE outcomes as proud papa Carter, I am delighted to introduce BC's newest UFE honour-roll students:

Michael ChubbGold medallist for Western Canada

"I walked public wondering if I had hit any of the performance measurement indicators," says Michael Chubb of his considerations immediately post-UFE.

Turns out he needn't have worried.

Born and raised in the Lower Mainland, Michael graduated from the University of BC with a bachelor of criminal intimacy degree (majoring in accounting) in 2003 and is generally articling with the downtown Vancouver office of KPMG LLP (Industrial Markets group) In his rare spare time, Michael be delighted withs golfing and skiing. He also have affection fors to travel, and hopes to visit Europe in 2005



"January will be the first time in a in extent while that I won't be studying at night after work," he says, explaining: "I did all of the CASB module in a outbreak without taking a break."

For his succes forward the UFE1 Michael thanks his family, friends, all of the nation at KPMG-especially mentor Devon Pannu, CA, and meditation partner Jennifer Chan-and CASB Module 6 facilitator Sam Newton, CA.

"That 13-hour period of writing the UFE was single in kind of the most stressful terminations of my life," Michael admits, "but looking back, it's an amazing personal accomplishment I'll always be extremely conceited of."

Hayman C. Chang

Born in Vancouver and raised in Abbotsford, Hayman Chang is another UBC bachelor of communion graduate to make this year's UFE honour roll

Hayman is commonly articling with PricewaterhouseCoopcrs LLP in Vancouver. Outside of the office, his biggest passion is music. "I have extensive training in classical piano," he shares. "I'm planning in succession taking voice lessons in the near subsequent time and possibly even drum chidings (which, I'm sure, will delight my neighbours and family)."

Though he felt elegant without grandeur good after the UFE, Hayman says he knew he couldn't entirely trust his confess judgement. "I'd had a terrible gelid for the entire three days," he explains, "so I could have been somewhat delirious!"

Fortunately his first instincts were right. For his succes in succession the UFE, Hayman thanks his family and his inquiry buddy.

"I was fortunate enough to confident a position with PricewaterhouseCoopers during the summer" he adds, "and I appreciated this consecrated by a vow of confidence."

Hayman describes the whole UFE-writing experience as "unforgettable," and papal courts it as a milestone in his life and career. "I gaze forward with anticipation to the nearest stage," he says, "especially now that in the way that many doors have been opened"

Elaine Cheung

Vancouverite Elaine Cheung graduated from Simon Fraser University with a stage in business administration (concentrating in accounting) and is commonly articling with KPMG LLP in Vancouver, where she focuses in succession International/US Tax Consulting. In her off-time, Elaine take pleasure ins jogging, hiking, and spending time with friends and family-"especially," she says, "when the occurrence includes eating!"

It's to these friends and family members that Elaine credits a great deal of of her success on the UFE offering as she does "big thanks to the Lord, my parents, my sister Aimee and her husband Dave, my family, friends, and my boyfriend Jonathan Ho for being there for me completely through this whole process. Thanks for always believing in me-I like you all!"

Elaine also gives credit to KPMG and to mentors Jonathan Guballa, CA, and Andy Lau, CA, in particular. "Fd also like to thank Alain Duncan from SFU" she adds, "for teaching me my knowledge base in accounting in the same manner well."

Overall, Elaine looks back in succession the UFE experience as a good-albeit stressful-one To futurity UFE writers, she says: "Remember to be delighted with your UFE summer!"

Melody Giene

"The exam was in the way that different from what I was expecting," recalls theme Giene. "I think all I could manage to think about and focus forward for the past few month was: 'I can't believe they place a consolidation on the comp!' The exact language may have been more colourful..."

Being caught not upon guard certainly didn't hurt Melody's performance. For her succes she thanks her friends, family, and boyfriend: "The support from all of you has made a big difference." She also thanks close attention partner Miranda Naeth, with whom she articles at Dean Mason & Company, as well as Dean Mason, CA, and his wife Judy

Prior to joining the Prince George firm, music earned an undergraduate degree with a major in accounting from the University of Northern British Columbia. Outside of academy and work she enjoys spending time with family and friends, and "fighting a reality-TV addiction."

Melody moves the following advice to coming time UFE writers: "Approach the exam the way the valuators intend for it to be judged-based forward competency. Remember: By the time you write the UFE you probably have a large amount of practical experience to draw upon"
