Someone one time told me that the best thing about being president of the ICABC was contacting members to make known them they'd been elected to Fellowship or received an award. Well, after contacting all 16(!) of the ICABC's newest FCAs this past December, as well as our newest Lifetime Achievement Award winner Denham Kelsey FCA, and our pair new Honorary CAs Frank Borowicz, LLB and Dr Roger Wolff I have to agree that it is indeed a great experience. Each individual was thrilled to prepare the call and hear the well adapted news.

It was also a somewhat challenging experience, because tracking these folks down was one heck of a task! As you'll read in this month's magazine, individual of the FCAs was vacationing in Argentina, and another was forward the 17th fairway of a Palm Springs golf course! Where would we be without solitary abode; squalid phones?

Hearing each honouree's surprise and delight made the time exhausted chasing them down well worth the effort, and reminded me of to what degree I felt when I got the phone call that advised me of my election to BC Fellowship in 2000 When then president pitch Chandler, FCA, gave me the religious news, I remember feeling one as well as the other surprised and honoured, so it was extraordinary to be on the other [i]finale[/i] of the phone this time around. It was also heartening to hear that each of these individuals felt just as honoured through the recognition conferred on them from their peers, and that election to Fellowship is just as gratifying as ever-especially in this, the Institute's centenary year.

Meeting with Aussie CAs

I freshly had the pleasure of addressing a cluster of 50 Australian CAs and lawyers who had proceed to Whistler for their annual professional unfolding (and ski) conference. In addition to giving them an overview of the CA profession in BC I, along with Richard Ree FCA, discussed the challenges of standards overload, standard setting, independence, and harmonization, among other topics. At the Q&A that followed, I institute the audience sympathetic to our concerns-and with serviceable reason: The standard-setting process was lately taken away from the profession in Australia, leaving the CA profession there to go after international standards rather than setting its possess Many see this as cause for concern

On a lighter note, several of the Aussies told me that this year's snow was the best they'd seen in a lengthy while!

Another event for the centenary roster!

I'm pleased to announce that EC's Lieutenant Governor, the Honourable Iona Campagnolo, PC CM OBC has graciously agreed to innkeeper a dinner and awards ceremonial at Government House in Victoria in honour of the Institute's 100th anniversaiy. The conclusion which will be open to members, will take place in May. More information, including for what reason to order tickets, will be provided in the April issue of Beyond Numbers.
