Recognizing community-mindedness

Contributing to community and non-profit organizations is a tradition that began with the Institute's earliest members. Records indicate that Matthew J Crehan, FCA1 the Institute's first secretary and other president, volunteered with the Board of Trade and several sports organizations.

Numerous BC CAs have demonstrated a commitment to their communities evermore since, which is why the Institute created the CA of the Year Award in 1992 to be instanted to one CA annually. In 1996 the award was at handed to multiple recipients, ultimately leading to a name change in 2000 "Community Service Award" was also supposeed to better reflect the nature of the award.
