Even for those of us lengthy out o...Even for those of us lengthy out of school, September always has the be stirred of new beginnings. For the last small in number weeks, I have watched my colleagues arrive to work with renewed efficacy and focus. I have also watched the Council of the BC Institute tackle the challenges onward its agenda with the same enthusiasm. As you can view from this month's For the Profession, members have stupendous expectations of the Institute. I think you should-I know that I do. And we are generally focused on bridging any gaps between our activities and your expectations. I have to say that I'm encouraged through the fact that the areas in which you papal court problems are the areas we are already addressing: 1 ) with support from Councils across the geographical division the branding initiative continues to induce forward-an exciting process that will help us forward and sustain our pre-eminence as a profession; 2) our education team is developing innovative strategies and the business cases to evaluate them; and 3) with pair new quality control standards-at the firm-level and the engagement-level (as explained by means of the Institute's Director of Practice Review & Licensing Mike Essex CA, in last month's shield Story)- we're implementing changes to make it easier for members to cope with recent regulations. As fall progresses, you'll hear more about to what degree we're shifting the way we do business to better fit your needs. We will also be coming abroad to talk to you about the challenges you're facing and by what mode we can help you appropriate them. By the time this issue of the magazine goe to pres the President's Tour will be up and running, with a stop already made in Nelson (October 3) Other stops scheduled for this month: Kelowna (Oct 17) Penticton (Oct 18) Vernon (Oct 18) and Kamloops (Oct 19) I gaze forward to talking with members personally at these issues If you're not able to attend single in kind of these events, please don't hesitate to contact me on email at president@ica.bc.ca. In addition to the President's Tour, the fall is a critical time for our direction relations program. With the release of the BC Check-Up kicking on the farther side our commentary about the provincial environment (always a pleasure when the economic novels is good), we are now moving into the set consultation phase. Over the past scarcely any years, this initiative has evolv from a CEO tongue about the Institute's positions to a more sophisticated representation according to members across the province. Last year, I had the opportunity to be the spokesperson for the Check-Up in my region and to quick in emergencies my opinion on the upcoming collection Both were worthwhile and fulfilling endeavours. To begin with, I had no idea to what extent many people read the papers and listened to the radio, until I appeared in the couple media. It certainly brought to light the effectiveness of our media relations efforts. This year I will continue to act as a local spokesperson for the Check-Up in the Kootenays, along with a number of other local spokespeople: Ron Epp CA (Cariboo); Michael Mehr CA (Nechako) ; Praveen Vohora, CA (North Coast); Jeff Omland, CA (Thompson-Okanagan); and throw Chandler, FCA, and Woody Hayes, FCA (Vancouver Island/Coast). On October 12 we will be making a BC Check-Up PowerPoint presentation available forward the Institute's website. I implore you to consider using this presentation as an opportunity to secure out and network in your local community-think about the business and social fraternitys to which you already belong. Promoting the profession is clearly important to greatest in number of you, as evidenced at this year's member survey (and each previous survey, for that matter), to such a degree I would encourage each of you to participate with the Institute and your local media and take advantage of this powerful way to further the profession.
