It was a great pleasure to bestow ...It was a great pleasure to bestow the evening of September 21st celebrating the third of our centenary circumstances with members from the Kelowna area and visitors from across the country. across 100 of us gathered to wish the Institute a happy 100th birthday and to recognize the achievements of local-area members (see page 28) Two groups-one representing the profession nationally and the other representing the Western provincial institutes-presented the Institute with soapstone carvings to mark our 100th anniversary (see below). These are now forward display at the Institute offices in Vancouver. I was high-strung to host the presidents and CEO of all the provincial institutes/ordre, as well as the CICA Board, and thank the CICA for holding its AGM in Kelowna this year in the same manner they could celebrate with us. While the celebratory meeting was a highlight for me the Kelowna trip was not sole about toasting the profession. In addition to the CICA AGM, the CA denomination of Business held its AGM, the Western First Officers met to discuss issues affecting CAs in the West, and leadership from across the home spent an intense day discussing the implementation of the profession's strategic framework. The meetings that took place dealt with important and controversial issues. What impressed me most numerous was the quality of debate and the robust commitment to the interests of the profession. Where, in the past, we have sometimes stumbl upon regional differences, this time around there was a clear brains of shared direction, of moving forward together for the dutiful of CAs across the country We took one large steps forward, agreeing in succession a general direction for branding and giving the Branding Task Force a new light to develop specific implementation plans for councils to approve for the nearest fiscal year. We also urg the Education Task Force to continue its research into expanding training opportunities, and applauded the progres they've made forward updating the student competency map to better throw back today's business realities. I am self-same excited about botn diese initiatives and anticipate forward to telling you more athwart the coming months, both in this rounded pillar and in person on the President's Tour (see November dates forward page six). 2006 promises to be a year of action for the profession. What a great way to start our other century in British Columbia! Quality control Finally, I would like to remind my colleagues in public practice that the requirements of CICA Handbook sections GSF-QC and 5030 be due or owing into effect December 1, 2005 These sections establish sum of two units new quality control standards and provide guidance upon specific procedures to be performed from the practitioner and other members of the assurance team in an assurance engagement. As we mentioned in the September issue of Beyond Numbers (page 9) the Institute's PD department bring outed a Quality Assurance Workshop to help members implement these recent standards. I'm pleased to report thatat the time of this writing-over 450 members had already complet the workshop. I highly make acceptable that those of you who missed the initial offerings contact the PD department to find disclosed if additional sessions are being scheduled (call 604-488-2614 or toll independent at 1-800-663-2677). Another helpful tool is the Quality Assurance Manual (QAM), which was created by the agency of the CICA to help firms bring to maturity and document their quality rule systems. Copies can be purchased from the CICA (contact the customer service department toll emancipated at 1-800-268-3793).
