David Bentall, chair of the middle and founder of coaching and advisory firm nearest Step Advisors, puts it plainly: "The important word is 'family,' not 'business.'" Katherine Bright, MBA, executive director of the Business Families midst also agrees. Like East, she identifies a "knowledge gap" between what business families ne and what professionals are giving them. "Often times, what we view are fantastic technical plans, on the contrary when you roll them on the outside in the context of a family, the plan is totally dysfunctional," she explains. According to Bright, bridging this gap is single of the Centre's primary goals.

An evening of education

As part of its effort to help professionals understand the family side of family business, the midmost point invites a successful business family to be the keynote speaker at its annual Family Legacy Series dinner. "[Advisors] gain a flush of insight into how large a character family dynamics play in the operation of a business," says Bright.

This year's keynote speaker is the JR Shaw family, individual of Western Canada's most prosperous business families. As with previous facts their presentation will offer more than just a recounting of family history. "We want families to be due [i]or[/i] owing to the event and learn," David Bentall says enthusiastically. "We want them to borrow the pious stuff and be warned about the bad stuff"

Bright believes the event's frank, open-end format can be therapeutic for other business families.
