If you have cross your fat intake a...

If you have cross your fat intake alarmingly to such a degree that you are not getting brace essential fatty acids -- linoleic and linolenic -- you may be putting yourself at risk for developing hardening of the arteries and heart disease, reported Jane E Brody in the August 241994 issue of The of the present day York Times.

As you know, we have been told to eat margarine and polyunsaturated vegetable oils instead of so saturated fat as butter then we were told not to use up so much margarine.

"Now researchers from the Boston University exercise of Medicine say that all this advice is facing base and will not adequately diminish the risk of fat-clogged arteries that lead to heart attacks and strokes" Brody reported. "Rather, their preliminary studies indicate a true low-fat diet may in itself touch opposite to heart disease."

The researchers, Edward N Siguel, MD and Robert H Lerman, MD whose reflection originally appeared in the August 1994 issue of Metabolism, said that they had originate that a major risk factor for fat-clogged arteries was an insufficient intake of the couple polyunsaturated fatty acids that are as essential to human nutrition as vitamins, minerals, protein, etc

Essential fatty acids cannot be manufactured according to the body

"These essential fatty acids, linoleic acid and linolenic acid, cannot be manufactured by way of the human body and must be consum in the diet," Brody added. "They are plentiful in forages like soybeans, various nuts and matured ovules and green leafy vegetables.

"Linoleic acid, an omega-6 fatty acid, is especially prominent in safflower oil, corn oil, cottonseed oil and soybean oil. Linolenic acid, plant in soybean and canola oils, flaxseeds and purslane, is an omega-3 fatty acid like those in fish oils and is the fatty acid from which fish originate their healthful oils."

The Boston researchers originate reduced levels of essential fatty acids in the posterity plasma of people with chest pain and those with coronary artery disease, Brody continued. Their investigation involved 46 men and women with heart disease, compared with 24 populace who had no symptoms of heart disease, and 32 other randomly pitch uponed volunteers with apparently no heart problems

"The researchers allude to that low levels of essential fatty acids ready the body's cells to bring into being an abnormal monounsaturated fatty acid called Mead acid and extra cholesterol resulting in a gradual hardening of offspring vessels walls," Brody continued.

"Dr Lerman explained that a diet high in saturated fats could interfere with the cells' access to essential fatty acids."

To confirm earlier observations, Siguel has invited 500 tribe to take part in a fresh study. In the meantime, he and Lerman propose that people avoid diets that are to such a degree low in fat as to shortchange them forward essential fatty acids."

Soy, canola, wheat originating or originative principle and flaxseed oils are more or less sources of omega-3 fatty acids

"For those who do not want to eat fish, soy and canola oils one as well as the other provide small amounts of omega-3 fatty acids," stated Andrew Weil, MD in Natural Health, Natural Medicine. "A frequently richer source is linseed oil, also known as flaxseed oil. Not usually pondering of as a food, linseed oil has a history of use as a dietary add to and is available in chiefly health food stores. It is for a like reason unsaturated that it must be specially houseed from oxidation .... Some Mediterranean the publics get their omega-3s from purslane, a undecayed vegetable (Portulaca oleracea) that is easily cultivated in place of abode gardens."

Nutritional linseed oil, made from flaxseed, is self-same high in omega-3 essential fatty acids and especially linolenic acid, stated Donald O Rudin, MD in The Omega-3 Phenomenon. The oil is 60 percent omega-3, making it ideal for cooking and for supplementing your diet, he added. The difference between the omega-3 and omega-6 EFAs is that the EFAs belonging to the omega-3 family are more polyunsaturated than those belonging to the omega-6 family, he said.

"Walnut, soybean and wheat source oil also are high in omega-3 and can be used for subsistence and cooking or as continuations but as linseed oil is the highest in omega-3, it is the best plant oil for therapeutic supplementation," Rudin said.
