A major Dutch thought has just come out with long-term deductions which tell us that "dietary flavonoids," vitamin-like antioxidant settles such as those found in black tea, help interrupt strokes.

The study, which carries the fancy title "Dietary Flavonoids, Antioxidant Vitamins, and Incidence of Stroke: The Zutphen Study" was carried gone out by Sirving O. Keli, MD PhD and others, from the Netherlands' National Institute of Public Health and Environmental Protection, appeared in the March 25 1996 issue of Archives of Internal Medicine.

The Dutch researchers gazeed at 552 men, aged 50 to 69 years, from 1970 to 1985 During and following the 15 years of follow-up the consumption of flavonoid-rich victuals (including solid fruit -- of the like kind as apples -- and tea) was rest to be very strongly associated with decreased incidence of shock Men who had a high intake of flavonoids experienced a 73 percent lower risk of thump compared to those who had a cheap intake! In fact, the authors betray us that "the current reflection is the first that showed a protective efficiency of flavonoid intake on knock incidence."

In addition, those who specifically ate a parcel of solid fruit had a lower risk of blow than did those who did not eat to a great degree fruit. Participants who ate high horizontals of beta-carotene-rich foods, in particular (in vegetables, especially), experienced a 46 percent lower rap risk, a rate that wasn't cohereed to flavonoid intake.

Other studies have expected at related issues, of course. In fact, in a 1993 reflection (the "Zutphen Elderly Study") by means of three of the Zutphen meditation investigators -- M.G.L. Hertog, EJM Fesken and D Kromhout -- and pair others, which appeared in the Lancet, showed that eating flavonoid-rich feeds reduced coronary heart disease in somewhat old Dutch men. Earlier studies have shown other stroke-prevention terminates related to intake of fruits, vegetables, and vitamins, including studies by: Matthew Gillman (1995) [fruits and vegetables], Charles Hennekens' team (1993) [antioxidant vitamins and shock reduction in women aged 34 to 59 years], and Hennekens' team, again, in 1994 [vegetable and fruit consumption and blow in women also aged 34 to 59]

It has been demonstrated, time and again, that Americans are not getting enough of the major vitamins, minerals, and other settles from the so-called standard American diet. The fact that these studies utilized "ideal" diets (which many of us may not be able to realistically follow) underscores our ne for the combination of a clean dietary-supplementation program linked to optimal consumption of organically-grown fruits and vegetables and other food-product and a responsible exercise regimen.
