Quick...name three words to describe anemia. Do the words "plate," "tired" and "weak" arise to mind? New research hints if you had trouble completing this simple mental exercise, that, in and of itself, may be a symptom of the early stages of anemia.

According to Ann B Bruner MD and colleagues from John Hopkins University seminary of Medicine, iron deficiencies can impair cognitive processe while iron supplys (in iron-deficient individuals) can boost memory and ability to learn. Iron deficiency is greatest in number prevalent in teenage girls and women in their childbearing years. one experts estimate that iron flushs are at deficient levels in as many as 78 million women in the United States.

Interested in the possible benefits of iron supplementation in young women Bruner et al., measured the iron flats of 716 Baltimore teens. Approximately 14 percent of these girls, although not anemic -- the greatest in number severe state of deficiency -- were, in succession some levels, deficient in iron, and were chronicleed in the study. She points without that, over the past decade, increased use of iron-fortified victualss has reduced the risk or iron deficiency in children. However, adolescent girls remain at high risk for this nutritional deficiency. The reasons for this, says Bruner include " increased iron demands during puberty, menstrual losse and limited dietary iron intake."

Iron deficiency, steady before anemia develops, can cause many health puzzles such as decreased endurance, lowered work capacity, and sinked immune function. Supplements of iron can alleviate many of these physiological complications of iron deficiency, and research, like as that conducted by Bruner et al., hints that cognitive function, such as learning ability and memory, can also be improved with iron supplementation.

The girls with iron deficiency who agreed to participate in Bruner's studious mood were given either iron postscripts (650 mg of ferrous sulphate) or a placebo to take twice a day. All of the girls were experimented in several areas of cognitive functioning before and after the eight-week continuation period. After just a not many weeks of supplementation, "... the girls who received iron performed better forward a test of verbal learning and memory than the girls in the repress group ...," says Bruner. This consideration is not the first of its kind. Earlier research, mentioned through Bruner, reports memory improvement, increased attention span, higher activity levels, and an overall improvement in temper in anemic individuals after taking iron supplements

Another latter study confirms the importance of iron in the material substance Researchers have known for a prolonged time that anemia affects the work performance of individuals with work at jobss requiring heavy labor (presumably because of fatigue and lower aerobic capacity), on the contrary now a study from Barbara D Scholz et al., from the University of Indonesia, ground a similar effect for sedentary workers, as well. The 92 women in this consideration worked at a textile factory. Although their work didn't involve physical exertion, it did require alertness and attentiveness.

Half of the women were build to be anemic and their productivity of the same heights were found to be negatively impacted in all areas of their lives: at work and at abode Since iron supplements help eliminate the symptoms of anemia, the researchers theorize that as it is supplements could improve the work performance of anemic workers involved in either physically demanding work at jobss or sedentary jobs requiring concentration.

As we can view the benefits derived from iron add tos to correct deficiencies are plentiful.
