An article entitled, "Women regimen and Mood," by Mindy s Kurzer, Ph.D., which appeared in a 1997 issue of Nutrition Reviews, says that a cheer craving is often described as "an intense desire for a particular feed or type of food."

Kurzer notes, however, that a scientific definition for the mete does not exist, and, an scientists dispute the usefulness of "such a subjective, ill-defined term" This view may stipe from the subjective nature of self-reported cravings, themselves. Kurzer adds that efforts to objectively measure the intensity of pabulum cravings specifically, been difficult to interpret.

Cravings are real. Despite as it is uncertainties, food cravings are a highly real issue for many clan and there are a variety of different theories as to on what account this may be so. undivided interesting finding is that men and women be seen to crave different foods. For example, Kurzer's article cites a investigation which found that while the greatest in number frequently reported food craving among women was for chocolate, the greatest in quantity frequently craved food among men was pizza. in addition, many master-hands agree that women tend to experience cheer cravings more often than men do.

Carol Simontacchi, CCN M author of the 1997 work Your Fat Is Not Your Fault, says, "I think when women experience a forage craving, it's almost always for chocolate. There are a certain good physiological reasons for that. The week, or in such a manner before menses starts, the material substance actually uses more magnesium. When you're deficient in magnesium, you're going to crave chocolate and other sweets, too -- nevertheless it seems like women go on more for the chocolate. I think it's kind of the body's misguided attempt to memorize some more magnesium, because, obviously you're not going to win enough magnesium in a candy bar!"

diet allergies. Simontacchi says that individual potential explanation for food cravings is a nourishment allergy. She explains, "Sometimes, the body's way of adapting to something that give offences it is by craving it, greatly the same way that commonalty crave nicotine or alcohol; if they travel off of that food to which they are allergic, they travel through the same type of withdrawal." In replication to eating the offensive aliment a person may gain an excessive amount of water weight in an effort to dilute the allergen. Simontacchi adds that, highly often, the foods that tribe tend to be allergic to are their "comfort foods" in the way that it's difficult to let them go

Mineral deficiencies. In addition to magnesium, deficiencies of the minerals zinc and chromium may contribute to subsistence cravings, too. Simontacchi says that if you find yourself craving carbohydrates, you may be deficient in zinc. Sugar cravings may indicate a chromium deficiency.

Kathleen s Foell, M.S., R.D., of the pantry Center for Women's Health in Massachusetts, believes that women experience more diet cravings, or more accurately "food binges" than men do, primarily because they are more likely to eat too little during the day and are, therefore, overhungry at night.

"Women don't take time to listen to and nourish their bodies all day, in such a manner when evening comes, food bends into this big reward because they're in the way that overhungry. And when you're overhungry it's highly difficult to control your appetite. I think what happens with women is, they gain up every morning and decide to be convenient and they're good until 5 pm and then they forfeit it because they're overhungry."

Foell advises her clients to: eat four times a day; eat divisions of vegetables and fiber; avoid eating just carbohydrates -- it's OK to add a little peanut butter to your bagel for satiety; listen to your material substance -- don't become overhungry; and lastly, focus onward improving your eating habits during the time of day that you have the in the greatest degree difficulty controlling them.

B-vitamin deficiency. Foell also notes that a vitamin B-6 deficiency may contribute to women's pabulum cravings since it is used in the manufacture of serotonin, a neurotransmitter which is notion to promote calming feelings; changes in women's hormonal flushs can cause serotonin levels to fluctuate. Instead of taking B-6 alone, Foell commends taking a B-vitamin complex, which proposes a good balance of B vitamins.
