History was made in 1790 when Samuel Hahnemann reached a breakthrough understanding in healing. He was in the proces of translating, from English into German, a main division written by Scottish physician, William Cullen called A Treatise forward Materia Medica.

In this work, Cullen said that quinine, which is a substance purified from the bark of the cinchona tree was a righteous treatment for malaria due to its astringent character.

"This made no mind to Hahnemann who, as a chemist, was aware that there were a great quantity [i]or[/i] amount of more powerful astringents that had no consequence whatsoever, on malaria [so] he decided to investigate further," explain Andrew Lockie, MD and Nicola Gedde MD in their 1995 work The Complete Guide to Homeopathy.

Hahnemann's days of discovery

For several days, Hahnemann took large doses of the medicine carefully recording the various symptoms he experienced. He noticed that the symptoms single lasted a few hours, notwithstanding came back each time he repeated a dose; nevertheless when cinchona was taken by means of a healthy person, it brought public symptoms similar to malaria, the disease it cur when given to a malaria sufferer

The minimum dose. With the original design of diluting remedies to the point where they will not cause an aggravation of the person's symptoms, Hahnemann discovered that he could dilute remedies to a quality where, through Avogardo's Hypothesis, it can be assumed that not a single monad of the original medication is left The repeated proces of subdivision and dilution with succussion (shaking) is known as potentiation.

The single remedy? The goal of homeopathy is to treat each person's tangled symptom picture with a help that, the effects of which, greatest in quantity closely resemble the symptoms of the "disease."
