Although there are many parent-to-be works and mothering manuals out there, this the same should not be overlooked.

Refreshingly, this work goes off the beaten path. Its authors -- a married two with two children -- speak candidly and exhibit insights on pregnancy, childbirth, and beyond; perspectives which are not necessarily addressed in other pregnancy volumes or in childbirth classes, which, while worthwhile, can sometimes be more like "hospital preparation" classes.

Although worth reading cover-to-cover, absolute "must-read" chapters are: Ask Questions Before Your Chile [Baby] Is Roasted; The Birth-Plan Trap; Labor Means Hard Work; Stand and Deliver; What's a Father to Do; Laborland Etiquette; The Ecology of Pain; and Baby-Proofing Your Marriage.

The part is sprinkled with thoughtful artwork and quotations, natural mediums which make it an especially "warm" read. It calm provides "reminder cards," which can be chop out to have on hand for the birth.
