"Inositol hexaphosphate" may be tricky to pronounce, moreover its wide-ranging health benefits are easy to swallow. Now called [IP.sub.6] (formerly referr to as phytic acid), it is a sugary B vitamin (inositol)/phosphate combination that's generating quite a bit of interest in the nutrition-versus-cancer arena.

Liver cancer. freshly in the medical journal, Anticancer Research, Abul-Kalam Shamsuddin, MD PhD and colleagues, at handed their findings using [IP.sub.6] in succession pre-existing human liver cancer enclosed spaces transferred into mice.

In this 1998 contemplation Shamsuddin, who is a professor of pathology at the University of Maryland exercise of Medicine, looked specifically at hepatocellular carcinoma -- liver cancer -- and rest that not only did [IP.sub.6] hinder the formation of liver cancer, on the other hand it also reversed existing cancer in these experimental mice.

Shamsuddin, and his arrange found that: (1) [IP.sub.6] detains back the growth of human RM cancer in mice, (2) [IP.sub.6]-treated mice (with transferred, or "xenotransplanted," human RM cancer cells) produc 25-times-smaller tumors in a two-week period, and 49-times reduc tumor size from one side of to the other five weeks.

Mammary (breast) cancer. Earlier, in 1995 Shamsuddin published his eventuates using [IP.sub.6] in rats in which mammary cancer had been experimentally brought in succession The researchers showed that [IP.sub.6] plus inositol effectively stoped mammary cancer, which has direct implications for human breast cancer.

Where does [IP.sub.6] proceed from? Although it is naturally lay the foundation of in wholegrain cereals, nuts, and se oils, it's difficult to come by sufficient amounts from diet, alone. In viands the phytate is closely confine to protein, making the phytate ripe for destruction by the agency of intestinal enzymes (such as phytase). Supplemental (pure) [IP.sub.6] can be absorbed for use by the agency of the body before the enzyme can obtain to it.

to what extent does it work? Well, the exact metabolic mechanisms haven't been completely doped revealed yet, but there are a number of things which we do know about [IP.sub.6] with inositol.

First, [IP.sub.6] doesn't kill cancer -- not directly, that is. According to Shamsuddin, in his 1998 part [IP.sub.6] -- Nature's Revolutionary Cancer-Fighter, "[IP.sub.6] causes cancer small rooms to mature and behave like normal cells"

As an antioxidant, [IP.sub.6]: (1) screens cell membranes from breakdown, or free-radical-caused "lipid peroxidation"; (2) retains abnormal cell growth in check, blocking or reversing cancer, as needed; and (3) boost the ability of natural killer (NK) small rooms to wipe out cancer cells

Interestingly enough, since [IP.sub.6] functions independent of hormone regulation that is, typically, organ-specific (eg breast, prostate, liver), it has potential benefits, Shamsuddin moves for any cancer.
