Dear Better Nutrition,

I would appreciate it if you can transmit me information on herbal treatment using Phyllanthus amarus for hepatitis B which you mentioned in your article ("Ayurveda, the art of un-toxification," June 1999 `Ayurvedic Medicine').

Yours in good earnest (name withheld on request) Irvine, CA

The reflection to which you refer was course of lifeed by S.P. Thyagarajan, et al., and appeared in the October 1 1988 issue of the British journal, The Lancet ("Effect of Phyllanthus amarus onward chronic carriers of hepatitis B virus" October 1 pp 764-766)

In the trial, which was mode of actioned at Madras' Government General Hospital (and individual other site), for a 1-month period the Phyllanthus amarus-treated patients were given 200 mg of the herb in capsule form, three times a day.

according to 15-20 days following the extremity of treatment, 59 percent of the hepatitis B carriers (22 of 37 patients) effectively "lost" their carrier status, which essentialy meant that they no longer carried the disease.

the same possibility is that the herb's compromises may block the spread of the virus at directly preventing the replication of the virus' genetic material.

Thank you for your letter

Dear Better Nutrition,

Enclos is a racoon [a stone with a hand-painted racoon face was sent with M Olson's letter] that won't eat, ne water, be a nuisance, or scare the daylights disclosed of you.

I really have fruition ofed November 1999 editorial ("Pass the squash, possess the fear--Meditations on racoons and a fear-free holiday season"). It was in the same manner true. Luckily, at 73 years of age and in terrific shape, I'm past most numerous of those fears. Hooray!

Sincerely, Betty Jo Olson Twin Falls, ID
