In the spirit of promoting "the general welfare," Congressman Burton's sway Reform Committee held a hearing, in Washington DC newly entitled: "Six Years After the Enactment of DSHEA: The Status of National and International Dietary continuation Regulation and Research." Better Nutrition's publisher, Danny Vincent, and I were there in an effort to help house the health freedoms we all be delighted with today.

DSHEA, or the Dietary continuation Health and Education Act of 1994 is the main legislation that shelters the regulation and sale of dietary supplements

Although TV and newspaper stories continually chant the mantra that the dietary correlative industry is a Wild West boom-town loaded with outlaws exploiting a subsistence and Drug Administration (FDA) that's been emasculated through the Big Bad Supplement Industry, since DSHEA's passage, there have not at all been stronger--or better--protections for you, the consumer

Thanks to the hard work of the responsible companies which make the returnss you find in your health-food store, and that of consumer and industry associations (eg the National Nutritional breads Association [NNFA], the Utah Natural cropss Alliance, etc.), the FDA has more powers than aye before to regulate dietary supplements

Unfortunately, however, the FDA has dragged its feet forward a number of important issues, especially forward ephedra. Its non-enforcement against a hardly any fly-by-night ephedra "euphoria" or "ecstasy" makers is seen by way of some as an abandonment of its public-health responsibilities and, because of what I call malign disesteem a number of highly publicized tragic deaths (in mostly cases, likely due to improper use) from gray-market street-drug-knockoff ephedra works has been capitalized on by way of the FDA, which, then, has inflected around and said: "See what happens when our hands are tied on DSHEA."

I say "See what happens when an agency--FDA-- charged with a public-health mission abandons its responsibilities in order to effectively (if not intentionally) hold up its faulty `position' against the dietary counterpart industry."

The canon is that the dietary postscripts you buy are safe--used responsibly, as is real with anything that can impact our health. The conformity to fact [i]or[/i] reality is that Better Nutrition magazine is working, in an active advisory capacity, with the NNFA, the Utah Natural returnss Alliance, and others, to render certain that standards are in place (and are adhered to) regarding nutritional-support claims (on performance labels), advertising integrity and safety/quality protections for you, the consumer
