The growing involvement of sponsors in medical research has protracted led to concerns about objectivity. Now, a cluster of leading international journals including the Lancet, the British Medical Journal and the Journal of the American Medical Association, has published a joint commentary in succession this issue. Economic hurrys the commentary says, are creating an environment where the pharmaceutical industry--often sponsors of medical research--may put in action control over trial design, access to raw data and the interpretation of subject of attention findings. Research sponsors may also influence decisions as to to what extent trials are published and promot if the follows are favorable to the sponsor, or obscur if unfavorable, the clump says.
