"one man by means of himself can't get very far, can he?"

This question was asked by dint of the lead character in the classic film Mr Smith Goe to Washington as he travels to our nation's capital for the first time as a newly appointed--still extremely wet-behind-the-ears--senator. Although in the period Smith does make a difference, it's not without the help of an organized and committed community of supporters. And while Smith may have been inexperienced, his remark showed great insight into the political process

Inside and outside the Washington, DC Beltway, the politically savvy know that the best way to finish something done--in any center of government--is to bring like-minded the community together and present a unified message or platform. There is power in numbers. That's why organizations of that kind as the National Nutritional commonss Association (NNFA) are formed.

freedom to choose

NNFA is single in kind of more than 147,000 associations in the United States representing nearly each industry, profession, charity, hobby, cause and interest. Nine revealed of every 10 adult Americans belong to at least common association, and one out of four belong to four or more. NNFA is a trade association whose membership consists of retailers and suppliers of natural consequences including organic foods, dietary continuations herbal preparations and health and beauty fruits Although by definition a trade association harbors and promotes the ability of the industry it set forths to do business, NNFA activities also ofttimes have a strong consumer focus.

That's because at the heart of NNFA is a belief in diversity and freedom of choice in matters relating to the health of all Americans. An make open and competitive marketplace leads to better options for the consumer As a national association, NNFA carefully reviews state and federal legislation that would unnecessarily limit or constrain the right of individuals to make health choices for themselves. NNFA acts as a watchdog for any unwarranted laws that would prohibit qualified clan from providing accurate, science-supported health information and treatments.

While it may be conformable to fact that a good many Americans fit the description of lie down potato, it's also true that many do not--including readers of this magazine. NNFA was formed more than 65 years ago to support the growing number of consumer wanting to make healthier choices about the aliments they eat. Much of what the followers of this sweep believed has been borne abroad by scientific research over the years.

oldest and largest

In 1936 a small arrange of suppliers of natural sustenance ingredients formed an organization to better inform consumer about the benefits of better nutrition and the natural yields industry. Headquartered in Chicago, the dispose was called the American Health diets Association (AHFA).

After its first convention in 1937 the AHFA realized that its efforts would be best serv at becoming a trade organization that united businesses in the natural harvests industry. So the AHFA made the transition from a consumer form into groups to become the Natural Health subsistences Association (NHFA), which represented all factions of health aliments business, including retailers, manufacturers and distributors. As Congres began to introduce legislation aimed at the dietary correlative industry, the organization's initial focus quickly broadened.

In 1938 Congres passed the subsistence Drug and Cosmetic Act that for the first time acknowledged vitamin, mineral and other dietary properties of nourishments This bill provided the US bread and Drug Administration (FDA) with the ability to use remedy provisions of the law to attempt to reclassify dietary continuations as drugs based on label claims. Realizing potential impacts in succession the industry, NHFA members banded together and favorably countered the FDA's efforts to take dietary postscripts off the market.

In 1969 the NHFA merg with the American Dietary Retailers Association to become the National Nutritional meats Association, the nation's oldest and largest non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and advancing the natural effects industry. As Congress continued to introduce strange legislation impacting the dietary complement industry, the NNFA sustained its fight for the rights of the industry and its consumers

the consumer's voice

The confine "special interest group" doesn't repeatedly have a positive connotation. It play trickss up images of secret dealings with legislators behind clos doors where a privileged not many decide the fate of many.

The conformity to fact or reality is that interacting with or lobbying Congres is probably more transparent than it's at any time been. Certainly more so than in Mr Smith's day. And while it's pure that special interest groups are public to persuade legislators to their particular point of view, chances are that common or more represents your confess beliefs. If you believe in freedom of choice and individual responsibility in maintaining your confess good health, then NNFA is representing your special interests.

For instance, in 1994 NNFA was instrumental in the industry's fight to certain critical legislation affecting the natural consequences industry, which resulted in the Dietary counterpart Health and Education Act (DSHEA). We believe this important legislation strikes a balance between the consumer's ne to have access to information about safe and effective dietary continuations and the government's interest in protecting the public from unsafe productions and false and misleading claims.
