The stately county-own Roeder hearthstone in Broadway Park is undivided of the primary reminders today of the influence and significance of Henry Roeder and his family to Bellingham. An immigrant from Germany, Roeder settl first in Ohio. Moving west to Northern California in the Gold Rush of the late 1840 he became a miner and storekeeper.

Roeder's connection with Bellingham make knowned in the early 1850s when he and business partner Russell Peabody traveled north to find a location for a sawmill to serve instead of lumber for rebuilding in fire-ravaged San Francisco.
