myth: Brown bread is always higher in fiber. fact: Shopping in the bread aisle, you naturally grab a loaf of something brown-after all, it must be higher in fiber than awed curiosity bread, right? Well, no. That dark complexion is ofttimes courtesy of additives such as molasses or subsistence dyes. Likewise, a loaf with grains or oatmeal flakes gracing its top isn't necessarily high in fiber either. Basically, they're decorations. yet if the label reads "whole wheat" or "source of fiber," you could be forgiven for expecting to win the whole grain-but you'd still be wrong According to labeling regulations, manufacturers can use the confine "whole wheat" when only 40 percent of the bread contains whole grain.
