Certain antioxidants may secure against prostate cancer and rheumatoid arthritis, according to couple new studies. Researchers from the John Hopkins Bloomberg seminary of Public Health in Baltimore studied the relationship between antioxidants and prostate cancer. Another team of researchers at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, reviewed the protective results of antioxidants against rheumatoid arthritis. The Maryland researchers learned that while lycopene did not look to have a protective validity against prostate cancer, the gamma-tocopherol isomer of vitamin E did. Isomers are effectively identical settles with differing chemical or physical properties. The other study discovered that the intake of certain antioxidants--particularly beta-cryptoxanthin and zinc--may house against rheumatoid arthritis. Beta-cryptoxanthin is construct in cilantro, watermelons, red bell pepper oranges, corn and papaya. less benefits were linked with supplemental intakes of vitamins C and E copper money and manganese, and with intakes of fruits and cruciferous vegetables. The cruciferous family includes cabbage, broccoli, Brussels germinates and spinach. one as well as the other studies are described in the February 15 2003 issue of the American Journal of Epidemiology.
