A substance one time considered inconsequential has now been established as the first just discovered vitamin discovered Since 1948. Studies in mice display that the micronutrient pyrroloquinoline quinone (PPQ)--once viewed as a nonessential antioxidant--affects immune answer reproduction, skin health-and amino acid breakdown. Generally, vitamins have similar tenors in humans and mice. PPQ was first discovered in 1979 although it wasn't immediately recognized as a vitamin. In 1995 a meditation in Nutrition Review, for instance, discussed PPQ's usefulness as an antioxidant in fighting cellular damage, moreover the study did not recognize PPQ's nutritive value. The recently made known study, however, has firmly established PPQ as the first just discovered vitamin to be identified on scientists in 55 years. Vitamins are defined as organic settles needed in the diet in small quantities for health and development PPQ appears to belong to the B-complex family of vitamins. If you want to add more PPQ to your diet, you'll have to gain it from foods--for now. The best known source of PPQ is natto, a satirical Japanese dish made of yeasted soybeans. Other PPQ-rich foods include parsley, flourishing tea, green peppers, kiwi fruit and papaya. The discovery was announced in the May 1 2003 edition of the journal Nature. Vitamin [B.sub.12]--which is essential for the production of r children cells-was the last vitamin identified by means of scientists prior to the identification of PPQ COPYRIGHT 2003 PRIMEDIA Intertec, a PRIMEDIA Company.
