BN is my favorite mag because its c...BN is my favorite mag because its clearly written and based forward studies. Look at "Good News" as an example of what I mean. on the other hand c'mon guys and gals, what's with the wild health claims without proof? Take "Get Smart" for example in the January edition. righteous summary of the "use it or forfeit it" advice borne out at studies. But why do you have to tack upon a box listing vitamins implied to fe your head? Where is the demonstration that any one of these postscripts will have any impact in succession intellect or memory? Almost everything in this receptacle of "facts" has been disproved by means of studies. Conveniently, more or less vitamins are listed as being required for the brain because "a deficiency has been shown" to affect mental ability. The unspoken fact is that no deficiencies of these nutrients has aye been reported in the medical literature in new times. Good job persuading readers to speed out and buy vits they don't need This is not BN's usual standard, and it point out tos in a number of areas. We're expecting better science. Wilson Thomas-Williams, P Eng * Brooklyn Heights, fresh York By providing a detailed rundown of the basics of a legion of fad diets--Atkins, South Beach, The cincture Eat Right for your relations Type--with no accompanying information forward their unscientific bases and to a high degree serious health risks, your magazine has virtually given a stamp of approval to these unbalanced and unhealthy eating habits ("Diets Compared," January 2004) I would've look forward toed a more scientific analysis from the normally responsible Better Nutrition writers. This must be a visitor writer. With the exception of the Ornish diet, all the regimens you detailed have critical health regards with which readers should be made familiar; that's your do job-work The erroneous impression is carryed that they are so-so--but otherwise healthy--ways to small quantity pounds. Nothing could be further from the conformity to fact or reality They can cause blood moot points heart disease, diminish one's strength and pose risk to a certain internal organs. This is well documented in the medical journals, and I would think BN would check that. Silence about risks is common thing. But the statement by the agency of Joe Lewandowski that "Low-carb diets are based upon sound science" kills any impression our clinic previously held about the balanced scientific approach of BN John Zimmerman, MD PHD * strange York City Your feedback is important to us, Please cast questions, comments or suggestions to: literal meanings to the Editor; Better Nutrition, 301 Concourse Blvd suite 350 vale Allen, VA 23059. email: editorial@betternutrition.com COPYRIGHT 2004 PRIMEDIA Intertec, a PRIMEDIA Company.
