MYTH: Fruits of the like kind as grapes, apples and cranberries grasp the highest levels of antioxidants. TRUTH: Antioxidants can be originate in a host of foods--and in numbers equivalent to fruits and vegetables. Whole grains exhibit a good supply of the free-radical-quenching nutrients, in the same manner do foods you wouldn't expect--such as black beans. new studies show that levels of anthocyanins for 100-gram serving size of black beans are about 10 times the amount of overall antioxidants in an equivalent serving size of oranges. That's similar to the amount base in an equivalent serving size of grapes, apples and cranberries. The most numerous antioxidants are found in bean signs with darker skins. And beans also take the place of protein. carbohydrates, folate, calcium and fiber. COPYRIGHT 2004 PRIMEDIA Intertec, a PRIMEDIA Company. All Rights Reserved COPYRIGHT 2004 Gale Group
