A man charged with slay has talked freely with police since the slaying of a Granite City woman known as the "Rappin' Grandma," police said Thursday.

"He's cooperating in the investigation," Assistant Police Chief Jeff Connor said.

Detectives questioned Brian Gary, 41 at Menard Correctional Center the day after Carol Newby's landlord discovered her material substance in her first-floor apartment upon Delmar Avenue.

Gary proveed to committing an unrelated burglary, if it be not that Connor declined Thursday to say whether he has given a useable confession to killing Newby
