In Collinsville basketball lore, a Kahoks faithful consider the team's trademark ball pres defense a link to the glorious past of Hall of Fame coach Vergil Fletcher

It was effective then and still works in 2006 judging from the Kahoks' impressive 41-38 Southwestern discourse upset of Belleville East last Friday.

"The last week and a half we've went exclusively to the ball pres and it looks like these kids are starting to bribe into it -- and that's what they're used to playing," said first-year Collinsville coach Chris Kusnerick whose team is 9-5.

"I didn't necessarily count upon the game to turn into a (slower) game like it did. We wanted to shade to (Eric) McCrary and (Mike) Malat because we knew those kids were excessively very capable."
