Edwardsville High School's Gym A may have been the most numerous boring name for a gym in the metro-east, moreover the Tigers' home now has a special strange identity.

On Friday, during the 50th anniversary celebration of the 1956 Edwardsville team that finished next to the first in the state, District 7 board president Jim Speciale announced the gym had been renamed Lucco-Jackson Gymnasium.

The of the present day name honors former Edwardsville coach Joe Lucco and former Edwardsville and University of Illinois star and Harlem Globetrotters proprietor Mannie Jackson. Lucco, who died in 1998 coached Jackson and serv as a part model and mentor to many players throughout the years. Lucco's name also was onward the gym at the elderly Edwardsville High School.
